Jocelyn,

I think I may have sent this previously, but just in case I am sending it now (below this email), the breakdown in which Florida sells tickets.    We count a bunch out ahead of time in 100s and 50s so they are ready when people walk up.  We have found that the more tickets people get for their money, the more they buy.  We have quite a few people each year that will buy $100 worth.  This year, we raised almost $5,500 for our Florida PAC fund in this fundraiser.  This was our biggest year yet.

I do have a couple questions:  Is there any way to do the drawing later in the day, even if it’s at the party Saturday night?  It would not take more than probably five or ten minutes with the amount of baskets we have.  One of the problems we ran into last year is that many people were in classes at the time the baskets were drawn and were not able to be there and it deterred them from buying tickets.  It also limited us getting the sales for the full day Saturday by doing it in the a.m.  We could have sold tickets for the remainder of Saturday and could have made more.

Also, I know we discussed this year whether or not people would have to be present to win, but that can cause a couple issues:  If someone does not put their name on the ticket and a number is called, they may never come back to see if the won, and then you have an unclaimed basket that someone present could have won.   In Florida, you have to be present to win.  If you can’t be there, you have to give your tickets to someone who is present.

Last question:  Shaunise and I discussed this past week in emails as to whether we would want to open this up for the membership to bring baskets this year in addition to the states?  Just a thought.  In Florida we have the membership bring baskets and they really get into it.   Yolanda brought a great one this year to Florida.    Last year, the basket that had the most tickets in the bag won a membership to Boot Camp, which is wonderful.  If we opened it up to the members also, if a member’s basket one,  we could offer them a free membership.  That is what Florida has done for years.  Just a thought; if not for this year, for next year.

Dave can tell you what a fun event ours has turned into.  He won a basket this year too😊

Thanks.

Subject: [NCRApac} PAC Fundraiser Update

Good Morning Everyone,

I just wanted to provide all of you with an update concerning our PAC Gift Basket Extravaganza this year at the 2019 annual NCRA Convention in Denver, CO. This year, we will be holding our raffle at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 17.

During our PAC Governing Board conference call last month, there were several items we discussed. The first action item we discussed was that I was going to work with Shaunise Day to send her fundraising letter to state leaders. We have forwarded Shaunise’s letter to state leaders in the state leaders listserv and have also sent follow-up emails to them. Shaunise will also be promoting the fundraiser on Facebook, if you would like to share her post. We will continue to encourage state leaders to donate prior to Convention.

Our second action item dealt with adding additional tables for baskets, putting the PAC booth in a desirable location, and requesting times when PAC Governing Board members may speak briefly at convention to promote the fundraiser. We have added one table for the baskets this year, so we will have a total of three tables. Regarding the location of the PAC booth, I could not change the location—the booth locations have already been set and paying sponsors receive priority in terms of location. Concerning promotional opportunities, PAC Governing Board members will have time before or after speakers/breaks to very briefly promote the fundraiser.

During our call, we also discussed the possibility of walking around and selling tickets. We are looking into purchasing Square for convention, and if we do, we should be able to leave the booth and collect contributions throughout the convention hall. However, we must remember that contributors must fill out the NCRA PAC Contribution form when they contribute to the raffle.

The last action item concerned increasing awareness of NCRA PAC in the JCR Weekly. Within the next week, the JCR Weekly will be encouraging state associations to donate baskets for the fundraiser. It will also list the associations who have already committed to donate baskets. So far, these are the thirteen state associations who will be donating baskets:

-Alabama Court Reporters Association

-Arizona Court Reporters Association

-California Court Reporters Association

-California Deposition Reporters Association

-Colorado Court Reporters Association

-Florida Court Reporters Association

-Mississippi Court Reporters Association

-Oklahoma Court Reporters Association

-South Dakota Court Reporters Association

-Utah Court Reporters Association

-Virginia Court Reporters Association

-West Virginia Shorthand Reporters Association

-Wisconsin Court Reporters Association

Lastly, there are two outstanding action items that I have personally. First, in the next week or so, I will be sending out a volunteer sign-up list to folks who would be willing to volunteer at the PAC booth. Any time you are willing to spend volunteering would be greatly appreciated. Second, I would like for us to come-up with a pay scale for selling tickets—i.e. 5 tickets for $15, 10 tickets for $20, etc. If anyone has a past scale model that they would recommend we use, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your hard work on this and please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you,
Jocelynn Moore
